Best Director & Best Picture

Julia. No Oscar ceremony would be complete without her endless smile. Here's my prediction...either Clint gets the Oscar and Aviator wins, or vice versa.

Clint Eastwood wins his second Directorial Oscar. Will this be a Million Dollar night? Or can the Aviator finally win big for Scorsese (now that he's 0-for-4 in the Directing category)?

The Fockers present Best Picture. Nice touch to have Dustin Hoffman open and close the show. Too bad I can't stand Streisand. And the Oscar goes to...

Million Dollar Baby! So much for this being the Aviator's night. They pulled a Gangs of New York—tons of nominations, few wins. Scorsese, for all his artistry, gets no love. Why? Well, here's my theory on Best Picture. It's actually the award for Best Combined Achievement in Art and Commerce in a Motion Picture. This is why big, popular movies win. What's that you say? Million Dollar Baby's not popular? I beg to differ. What other movie could start on 8 screens and move to 2,000 on its way to (currently) 65 million. It continues to rise, while the 90+ million-dollar earning Aviator is falling.

So that's the show. I'll be back tomorrow with tons of red carpet pictures recapping my best dressed, best tressed and most distressed. Good night.
