Nobody else spanned so many generations, backgrounds, etc. Still remember the night he went off the air. The Tonight Show has been pretty average ever since. Though in 2009, when Conan takes over, you will all see that the red-headed geek is the true heir to the Carson throne.
By the way, could they find nobody else in the Oscar hosting archives (Steve Martin? Billy Crystal?) besides Whoopi to reminisce?
